Selling coins: what to know.

First rule: don't clean your coins. Cleaning can wipe out most of a coin's collector value overnight. Leave them exactly how you found them and send photos of the fronts and backs.

Silver coins always have a floor value based on metal, but plenty of coins are worth well over melt to collectors. We separate the two so you get paid for both.

Inherited a collection you know nothing about? That's most of the coin collections we see. Keep everything in the original holders, albums and envelopes, because the packaging often tells us the year, the mint and whether a set is complete. Paper money should stay flat and unfolded.

From San Jose to Pleasanton to Folsom, we come to you for coins.

Questions

Coins FAQ.

Draft answers; terms are placeholders.

Who buys coin collections?

We do. Send photos and a rough count and we'll make an offer or recommend consigning the better pieces.

Do you pay over melt for silver coins?

For coins with collector value, yes. Common junk silver is priced close to metal value.

Should I clean my coins before selling?

No. Please don't. It lowers their value.
